Using LightShow Files with Tesla

Using LightShow Files with Tesla

Learn how to transfer your FSEQ and MP3 files to a USB drive for playback on your Tesla.

Prepare Your USB Drive

To ensure compatibility with Tesla vehicles, format your USB drive to exFAT.

For Windows:

  1. Insert the USB drive into your computer.
  2. Open "Disk Management" (diskmgmt.msc).
  3. Right-click on your USB drive's volume.
  4. Select "Format...".
  5. Choose exFAT as the file system.
  6. (Optional) Give it a label like TESLA_LIGHTS.
  7. Click "Start" and confirm.

For Mac:

  1. Insert the USB drive into your Mac.
  2. Open "Disk Utility" (Applications > Utilities).
  3. Select your USB drive from the list on the left.
  4. Click the "Erase" button.
  5. Set the format to ExFAT.
  6. (Optional) Give it a name like TESLA_LIGHTS.
  7. Click "Erase".

Formatting will erase all data on the USB drive. Make sure to back up any important files first.

Create the "LightShow" Folder

Tesla requires a specific folder structure.

  1. Open your formatted USB drive.
  2. Create a new folder at the root directory (main level) of the USB drive.
  3. Name the folder exactly LightShow (case-sensitive).

Transfer Your Files

  1. Locate your .fseq (light sequence) and .mp3 (audio) files from Light My Tesla.
  2. Both files must have the exact same base name (the part before the dot). For example, if your FSEQ file is holiday.fseq, your MP3 file must be holiday.mp3.
  3. Copy both the .fseq and .mp3 files into the LightShow folder you created.

You can add multiple light shows to the same USB drive by placing multiple pairs of .fseq and .mp3 files (with different base names) in the LightShow folder.

Play on Your Tesla

  1. Safely eject the USB drive from your computer.
  2. Insert the USB drive into your Tesla's USB port (usually found in the center console or glove box).
  3. On your Tesla's touchscreen, open the "Media" app.
  4. Select your USB drive as the media source.
  5. Navigate to the LightShow folder and select the .mp3 file you want to play.
  6. The corresponding light show should start automatically when the music plays.

Always ensure your vehicle is parked and in Park (P) before starting a light show. Never operate the vehicle while a light show is playing.
