Tesla Light Show Generator: Turn Any Song Into a Light Show

Every Tesla built since 2021 ships with one of the best party tricks in the car world: Light Show, a Toybox feature that choreographs the headlights, fog lights, turn signals and (on Model X) even the falcon-wing doors to music. Tesla includes a couple of built-in shows — but the real fun starts when you load a custom show set to a song you actually love. That's what a Tesla light show generator does.

What a Light Show Generator Actually Does

A custom Tesla light show is just two files on a USB drive: an audio file (MP3 or WAV) and an .fseq file — a frame-by-frame lighting sequence that tells every lamp on the car exactly when to fire, 50 times per second. Historically, making that .fseq meant installing xLights, importing Tesla's official 3D model, and hand-animating thousands of frames. A good three-minute show could take an evening — or a weekend.

A generator automates the whole pipeline: it analyzes your song's beats, onsets, energy and structure (verse, chorus, drop), then maps that musical timeline onto the car's light channels automatically. What used to take hours now takes about a minute.

How to Generate Your Own Show (3 Steps)

1. Upload your song. Sign in to LightMyTesla and upload any MP3. Our analyzer detects tempo, beats and song sections.

Installing the Show on Your Tesla

  • Format a USB drive as FAT32 or exFAT and create a folder named LightShow at the root.
  • Copy lightshow.fseq and lightshow.mp3 (or .wav) into that folder.
  • Plug the drive in, open Toybox → Light Show, and tap Schedule Show. Works on Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X on software 2021.44.25 or newer.
