FSD v14.3.6 Goes Wide Despite Majority Reporting Brake-Stuttering Regressions

Tesla’s latest Full Self-Driving update — FSD v14.3.6, delivered through software version 2026.20.6.11 — began wide rollout on July 28, 2026, one week after first appearing on HW4 vehicles. The update carries a list of genuine improvements, but the rollout has drawn attention for a different reason: a majority of early recipients reported noticeably worse braking behavior compared to the previous version, FSD v14.3.5.

Tesla proceeded with wide release anyway. No recall, no rollback, and no public statement from the company addressing the regression reports.

What’s New in v14.3.6

The update’s official changelog includes several substantive improvements for HW4 vehicles:

The Regression Problem

The architecture change may also be contributing to the regressions. A leading theory among the community is that the firmware merge required to support both HW3 and HW4 in a single build introduced instability in the braking pipeline that was not present when the two hardware platforms ran separate codebases.

User reports after the initial rollout described the same cluster of issues: brake stuttering on highway entrances, shadow braking at intersections with no obstruction present, difficulty in parking maneuvers, and a tendency to linger in the left lane at highway speeds.

The specific behaviors — brake stuttering and shadow braking — were prominent complaints against earlier FSD versions and had largely resolved in v14.3.5, making their reappearance in v14.3.6 particularly notable to drivers who had grown accustomed to smoother operation.

Why Tesla Likely Proceeded Anyway

The improvements in v14.3.6 are real, and Tesla’s internal testing likely showed aggregate performance gains across the broader fleet distribution of road conditions. Regression complaints in early rollout phases often reflect a vocal subset of the user base operating in conditions that expose newly introduced edge cases.

Tesla’s standard practice has been to collect fleet data from the initial wave of recipients before modifying the rollout strategy. A follow-on patch addressing specific regression cases has appeared within days or weeks in previous major FSD version cycles.

The Bottom Line for FSD Users

If you’re on HW4 and have received FSD v14.3.6, the new Arrival Options and RL improvements are worth exploring on familiar routes. For drivers who depend on FSD for daily commutes with heavy braking demands — dense urban stop-and-go, frequent merge points, tight parking — the early regression reports suggest some caution is warranted until a stabilizing patch arrives.

HW3 owners receiving FSD v14 Lite via this same build are in newer territory entirely: their hardware is now running a version of the FSD architecture that was previously exclusive to newer vehicles, and the long-term trajectory for that platform is still being established.

The unified HW3/HW4 build, despite its current growing pains, points toward a simplified future update pipeline. That’s good news for the long term, even if the short-term rollout is bumpy.
